It was a good year for Pakistan's art industry: Nabeel Qureshi's Na Maloom Afraad became a box-office hit; Pakistani dramas and actors made waves in India through television and film; and Bilal Tanweer won the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize for The Scatter Here is too Great, amongst many other feats.
The commercial success of these artistic ventures revives the age-old question about the relationship between art and audience: To what extent does the audience matter in determining success of an artistic endeavour? To debate this question of the utility and reception of art, the Herald has invited communication designer and Habib University faculty member Saima Zaidi, Urdu poet Fatema Hassan, curator and owner of Canvas Gallery in Karachi, Sameera Raja and filmmaker Rumman Zia. Actor, director and playwright Zain Ahmed will be moderating the forum.
